The Chummy Chum Foundation has always been focused on supporting children battling serious illnesses and those enduring difficult circumstances, including children from families affected by house fires.
On this particular day, the Chummy Chum team visited a temporary evacuation shelter in Brgy. 176, Bagong Silang, Caloocan, for indigent families displaced by a recent house fire. The team brought joy and hope to children who had been traumatized by the devastating fire, which left them with nothing but the clothes on their backs. Despite the loss, the families were grateful for their survival and the care they received from the local government unit.
The Chummy Chum team woke up early, at 4 a.m., to prepare chicken soup, which was still piping hot when they arrived at the venue, alongside popcorn, loot bags, toys, and special gifts. The team set up their booth, complete with colorful balloons, creating a magical atmosphere for the children.
The program kicked off with a prayer, followed by a series of fun parlor games. All the children received prizes for their victories, and everyone who participated was given a consolation prize. Just before Chummy Chum, the mascot, joined the children, the head of the team spoke about the foundation’s mission, vision, and goals, offering an inspiring message to uplift the children and their families. The message emphasized that no matter the hardships they faced, they were not alone and that every dark cloud has a silver lining.
When Chummy joined in, the children’s faces lit up with excitement. They rushed toward him and gave him tight, heartfelt hugs—an appreciation for the love and care they felt in that moment.
This is what Chummy Chum does—not simply an outreach program but a true embodiment of the Charity of Love. The mission for the day was clear: to help alleviate the trauma and restore hope and joy to the children’s hearts. Mission accomplished!
Special thanks to the Villarreal family for their generous contribution of treats and to SM City Sucat for the lovely Bears of Joy.
