Better World 10, Tondo Manila
After the devastating typhoon, the Chummy Chum Team received a call of support from a donor eager to lend a hand - Ms. AM, a woman with a compassionate and loving heart.
Ms. AM was particularly moved by the plight of children from Tondo, once home to the infamous Smokey Mountain, a vast dumpsite that symbolized hardship for countless families. Although the site has since been cleared for health and safety reasons, the surrounding communities continue to face significant challenges. In its place now stands the Better World, a center dedicated to supporting Manila’s poorest barangays by providing access to food and tools for a better future. Here, the children were gathered with the help of dedicated volunteers.
Determined to bring joy to these children, Ms. AM collaborated with the Chummy Chum Team to organize a special Halloween celebration. The event brought smiles and excitement as some children dressed in costumes while others enjoyed creative face painting and fun makeup designs.
The day's highlight was an engaging program hosted by a clown duo, featuring entertaining parlor games and a captivating magic show. But the real star of the event was Chummy Chum, the beloved mascot, who joined in the fun, dancing and playing with the children.
To add sweetness to the celebration, the children were treated to cotton candy – a magical experience for many who had never seen or tasted it before. Each child also received delicious snacks, toys, and special gifts, spreading happiness that lit up the entire community.
For a brief moment, laughter replaced hardship, and joy filled the air. The day’s success was a testament to how small acts of kindness, like providing costumes, snacks, and fun activities, can create lasting memories for children.
Helping doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive – it only takes a little effort and a big heart. This celebration was not only a mission accomplished for Chummy Chum but also an inspiring experience for Ms. AM. Together, they proved that giving joy to children in need is truly a noble cause.
