Althea Zaabrinah Gonzales, Age 5, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL)
Althea is the only child of a single mum. She is a happy child with a cheerful disposition. In March of 2014, she got an on & off fever which was diagnosed as Urinary Tract Infection (UTI), prescribed with medication thinking that was all it. In April 2014 she then again suffered from prolonged fever and this time she was admitted to the hospital right away. The doctor had the child go through different laboratory tests and medical examinations, and that’s when she was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia or ALL. She was admitted to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu for 21 days, where Althea has immediately started a series of chemotherapy with aid from the government. The mother decided to come to Manila to seek further assistance for her child for which they found at the National Children’s Hospital (NCH). Althea is now on her 8th session of maintenance-chemotherapy in NCH.
Cheerful Althea received gifts she never expected. A month supply of her maintenance medicine, big boxes of formula milk, nutritious food, supplements, a baby kit, toys, coloring book set, grocery items for the entire family, and cash that they can use to whichever way it could serve them best.
