Chummy Chum’s Charity of Love: A Day of Smiles for Fire-Affected Children

The Chummy Chum Foundation, in collaboration with the WeCarePH, visited the children affected by a devastating house fire in one of the poor communities in Manila.

Upon arrival, the Chummy Chum team was deeply saddened by the situation the families were facing. They were temporarily evacuated to the streets around their barangay, where the local government unit (LGU) had provided shelter. However, the conditions were difficult —the area is unbearably hot during the afternoon and very cold at night.

Despite the depressing condition, the team created a hopeful mood as they set up popcorn and cotton candy machines, along with the gifts that Chummy Chum had prepared. As the children began to gather, the Wecareph volunteers were also setting up food for everyone.

The event started with a prayer and fun games that had everyone laughing. Afterward, the mission was explained, and inspirational messages were shared to help uplift their spirits and encourage them to overcome their trials. When Chummy Chum (the beloved mascot) arrived, the mood brightened. Chummy Chum danced with the children, bringing smiles to their faces and allowing them to momentarily forget the trauma they had experienced. Some of the children were excited to color the pages of the coloring and activity books that Chummy Chum distributed.

The children expressed their heartfelt thanks to Chummy Chum for bringing joy and love into their lives. This is what the foundation does – a Charity of Love.

The team also extends its sincere gratitude to all the volunteers and to SM City Sucat for their generous donation of Bears of Joy, which brought additional comfort and warmth to the children.
