Recently, the Chummy Chum Foundation learned of a devastating fire that swept through Brgy. San Juan in Taytay, Rizal, affects over 100 households. In the wake of such a tragedy, one thought lingered in the minds of the foundation's team: “How are the children coping?” The trauma experienced by young minds can be far more challenging than that faced by adults, and the foundation’s primary focus has always been on the welfare of children particularly those from underserved families.
Recognizing the urgent need for emotional support, Chummy Chum quickly organized a charity event in collaboration with WeCarePH, aiming to bring a bit of joy and relief to the affected children. Their goal was to help the children cope with the trauma they had just endured by providing a fun and safe environment.
On the day of the event, the Chummy Chum and WeCarePH team gathered at the San Roque Parish Church in Taytay. With the invaluable support of the church volunteer workers, the children were brought together in a safe space where laughter could echo amidst the sorrow. Chummy Chum, the beloved mascot, joined in the fun, playing games and engaging with the children, ensuring that joy filled the air.
As bubbles floated through the atmosphere, transforming the surroundings into a magical scene, giggles, and laughter replaced the shadows of despair. During these moments, the children were able to escape from the reality of their loss and embrace a sense of normalcy and happiness.
After a lively playtime, the Chummy Chum team treated the children to delicious snacks—cotton candy, popcorn, cookies, apples, and juice—along with toys, loot bags, and a month's supply of vitamin C to take home. Each child was left with not only a small gift but also a heart touched by kindness, momentarily forgetting the trauma that had enveloped their lives.
In the face of adversity, the Chummy Chum Foundation continues to prioritize the emotional health of children, helping these young souls see a brighter tomorrow, and proving that even in the darkest times, joy can still shine through.
