Restoring Hope: Chummy Chum's Outreach to Children in Need

13 September 2024

Indigent Children from Navotas City

Whenever a severe typhoon strikes, the Chummy Chum team seeks out areas where children from impoverished families have been affected. This time, they visited children living in shanties along North Bay Boulevard, one of the communities hardest hit by Super Typhoon Enteng, where homes were submerged halfway due to flooding.

With the help of local volunteers, the Chummy Chum team gathered around 100 children under the scorching sun. They set up a small shaded area to serve hot chicken porridge, sandwiches, apple slices, popcorn, and special gifts. In addition, the team provided 100 packs of 2 kg of rice as immediate aid for hunger, along with brand-new house dresses and assorted garments for the families.

The children formed a line, eagerly awaiting the blessings they were about to receive. Despite the sweltering heat, their excitement was palpable. Their joy skyrocketed when Chummy Chum made a surprise appearance and joined them in line. The children felt honored and proud to have this special guest, realizing they were seen, loved, and cared for.

Chummy Chum’s presence strengthened the children’s hope and resilience in the face of the recent disaster.

Despite the heat, humidity, and exhaustion, nothing could deter Chummy Chum and the dedicated volunteers from reaching out to those in need.

A heartfelt thank you to ATI for the rice packs, Mam Jenny Pullon for the house dresses, CLI for the assorted garments, Anak-Bayan Community Pantry for the sandwiches, and all the volunteers who made this mission a success.
