Bulungan, La Huerta, Paranaque City
Chummy Chum kicked off their first own-initiative Charity of Love event of 2025 with the children from "Bulungan," or Fishermen’s Wharf, in La Huerta, Parañaque City. These children come from poor families living in shanties under the La Huerta Bridge. The area is known as "Bulungan," a Tagalog word meaning "whisper," because fishermen and buyers negotiate in hushed tones or through silent bidding.
Excitement filled the air as the Chummy Chum van pulled into the nearby parking area. Joy quickly spread throughout the cramped community as children eagerly gathered around the booth set up by the Chummy Chum team. The booth was filled with delicious treats, toys, and special gifts, sparking smiles all around.
Chummy Chum understands that these children are not only hungry for food but also for the simple joys that brighten any child’s life—toys and attention. To make the event extra special, the team woke up early to prepare champurrado, which was served alongside fresh apples, cupcakes, and cups of cold juice.
In addition to these yummy treats, the children were delighted to receive Chummy Chum coloring books, wristbands, cuddly bears, and toys. Their happiness was palpable as they felt seen and appreciated, even if just for a brief moment.
Unfortunately, Chummy Chum the mascot couldn’t join due to the slippery and muddy ground. However, the team’s efforts ensured that the children’s joy was priceless and undiminished.
Though the event lasted only a short while, it left a lasting impression on the children, creating special memories that they will cherish.
A heartfelt thanks goes out to WeCarePH for providing the juice, Mam Nanette Lim for donating the toys, and SM City Sucat for contributing the Bears of Joy. The Chummy Chum team’s untiring dedication continues to bring hope and laughter to those children who need it most.
